I need to be able to roast when I want to

"I’ve seen a lot of photographs on forums of people that don’t clean their machines. I’m a clean freak and love how my coffee taste and it’s fun to be able to see it through the glass when I remove the band to clean my machine. I was afraid that I might break one so these are my spares. They will be in the bag until I see the previous silicone bands don’t work just like you’d have a spare tire in your car. Paul roasting supplies has won me over as a Customer! With like this, why would you stop anywhere else?"

Noob Roaster Getting Some Great Roasts

"Got the SR800 with extension tube to craft Christmas presents, five pounds of washed Ugandan Bugisu from Mt Elbon and several pounds of sample packs from Home Roasters. I read instructions, watched videos, and joined r/freshroastSr800 on Reddit before the roaster arrived. When it did come I already had a written roasting plan with target temperatures that Sam helped me put together. All my first ten roasts were drinkable and I got very positive feedback from my neighbors that I gifted with bags of coffee for Christmas. One friend said the pourover Bugisu was the best thing she ever drank and her parents were enthusiastic as well. She even enjoyed it black. My son, a coffee enthusiast, enjoyed his using the Oxo Rapid Brewer and said it was as good as any coffee he ever had. I enjoy mine very much as espresso. I roasted a pound of East Timor. The first 225g batch came out at about 12. 5% moisture loss and is okay for espresso. I burnt the second batch at 25% m. l. when trying for a very dark roast for a friend. I did a MWP decaf roast. The first was underdeveloped at 9% and the second was okay at just over 12%. Overall, I'm extremely happy. 85%+ of my first roasts have been unqualified successes. I would strongly suggest that noobs like me buy 3 to 5 pulls pounds of the same greens when buying your first lot instead of sample packs. Go through ~5 pounds of washed beans to get a handle on the basics and get some consistent results. Then maybe try 3-5 pounds of natural processed greens. Then a few pounds of decaf. Possibly a few pounds of low altitude Columbian, then some hugh density Ethiopian. Sam can help you with your purchase plan. The problem with sample packs is that you only have one or two shots to learn how to roast that variety consistently. Buying bigger lots of the same greens gives you enough room to get consistent and experiment. Finally, keep a roasting log including fan, heat and especially TEMPS. IMO, too much emphasis is placed on rote fan and heat settings on most Internet tutorials and profiles. The purpose of fan and heat adjustments is to adjust TEMPERATURE. Keep your temp monitor on during roasts, log temps and make adjustments only to control temp or bean movement. Great, fun product. Great support Great coffee."

IF THERE IS A NEED TO FILE A WARRANTY CLAIM

  • We will need the serial number, found on the underside of the base unit, starting with 540 or 800.
  • Shipping or mailing address
  • Contact Phone Number
  • Pictures of the damage if filing a warranty claim for a roast chamber or top assembly.

IS YOUR MACHINE NOT HOT ENOUGH?

  • Verify that you are getting 120-122 Volts to the roaster without any extension cords.
  • The ambient air temp is not below 55*F.  Cool temps will result in low heat output.
  • Make sure your roast profile includes lowering the fan speed as the beans roast to increase the chamber temperature.
  • Running too few beans can result in heat not building up in the roast chamber.  Minimum of  3 Scoops, 3 OZ, or  85 Grams for both SR540 and SR800.
